I've Got My New Boots On....

These are my new slickers. They were free, serioulsy, free. I love a sale, I can sense a terrific sale a mile away. I rarely purchase anything full price....I believe in bargans.....These rubber boots are an oh so beautiful example.
Exactly one week ago, my sister and Iwere at the local mall, a place not often ventured to, to get some baby supplies for a baby shower. In Macy's I noticed that a cute and practical pair of rubber boots were 50% off. I held back because 50% off was only $30 and I was not ready to spend that amount on rubber boots that are going to get muddy compost on them. I held back and was very proud of not getting lured into the % sign and red tag.
Yesterday, Ron and I went to the same mall, in search of eye glasses. Remembering that I had a Macy's gift card, we decided to see what, if anything, we could spend this money on. We enter, I immediatly recall the rubber boots and head for the shoe department. Lo and behold, the boots are there and, ahem...75% off....You should have seen my face when the woman brought out the boots in a Steve Madden box....designer mud boots (ironic)! After the event I still had money left on the certificate for later sale use.
Another monumental event......The Cutting of the Hair....

Hairy Ron getting ready for the new doo.
Curious? Anxioius?

I had fun creating differnt hair styles...
1) the bowl cut

2) The quasi-mowhawk (you know I had to do it)

The Finale! Dosen't he look fresh?

An Ode to Marvin

This is to you, my dear pal who....
keeps me company when no one else is home...
greets me at the door when I get in...
sleeps besides me at night (and day)....
definitely knows how to relax...
snores when very comfortable...
defies all possible human yoga poses...
is entertaining for one hour, or one second....
can bring a smile to my face...
but can also pester me till no end...
Marvin, thanks for enjoying the bird feeder so much.....
and keeping us on our toes....
I am thankful for the person who rescued you...
and any human who rescues any animal.

A Reading Response

I am trying to wrap my head around all that I am reading.
The United States recognizes Thanksgiving
as a national holiday. Many believe that this celebration is
as a way to honor a common ground between the colonizing Europeans
and the Natives of this land, the land my house
is resting upon and the land where I grew up.
Many are also aware that this land was, in fact
intentionally stripped from these Native people
by murder, disease, forced migration, manipulation, intimidation, and oppression.
Yet these horrifying facts are suppressed and hidden
under the guise of a big turkey dinner.
We deny it, though we know it.....
Lies are still being taught to our children,
on soil that does not belong to us, about the
"friendships" between the "Indians" and "Pilgrims".
Our children are never told that
a newspaper in 1853
stated this about the railroad expansion:
"Horses themselves are rapidly becoming obsolete. In a few years,
like Indians, they will be merely traditional" From A Different Mirror by Ronald Takaki
This is real, this is the truth, this is the history of my country.
I will leave you with a song by the Arapaho Natives from the plains

My children, I when at fist I liked the whites
My children, I when at first I liked the whites
I gave them fruits.
I gave them fruits.

Father have pity on me
Father have pity on me
I am crying for thirst
I am crying for thirst
All is gone- I have nothing to eat.

(From A Different Mirror by Ronald Takaki)

In peace and solidarity,
Jessica
