I was tagged......

...by the lovely Beth of Lula Louise so here goes.

The Rules:
  1. Link to your tagger (see above), and also post these rules on your blog.
  2. Share 7 facts about yourself (random or weird) on your blog.
  3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
  4. Let them know they are TAGGED by leaving a comment on their blog.
Seven Random Things about Me:

1. I am currently wasting time in my office and am being temped by some seriously delicious looking brownies that I can't eat because they are for my students event tonight!

2. I have very detailed dreams. The most recent scary dream involved a large chocolate turkey, you know the kind wrapped up in colorful foil....

3. I really hate having a car but I love driving.

4. I dream about quitting graduate school and going to study art or design.

5. I recently had to lay down the law at work, I don't usually like being a hard ass...but it felt rather good this time.

6. I have been known to schedule meetings and other events around television shows.

and 7. I secretly really like the Christmas season (sssshhhhhh, don't tell anyone!). Although you will most often find me complaining about consumerism and Christian hegemony.

so that is it, seven random things. I now tag.....

Something a Little Heavy for a Monday Evening

Whenever I read something and I am so entirely compelled by it I feel the need to share..so here is an expression of some of my work/thoughts not having to do with crafts...

"When those in power declare that we are free does not necessarily mean that freedom is in fact our reality"

After reading some articles about the International Women's Rights and global feminism....I wrote this down in the margins of one of my notebooks, and after reading it again I wanted to share it with you all. I hope you enjoyed it.

If you are interested in what I was reading check out these books and articles:
Women Across Cultures: A Global Perspective by Shawn Meghan Burn
And
National and Indigenous Customary Law: The Struggle for Justice of Indigenous Women in Chiapas, Mexico by R. Aída Hernández Castillo
one more
Multiculturalism, Universalism, and the Claims of Democracy by Anne Phillips

I Finally got to Sew or My Fear of Yokes

And like Tiffany and Chelia I love this Built by Wendy pattern. This neckline came out the best of all of the garments I have made. And the collar just one of the reasons why I love this pattern so much, no yokes!! I avoid them like a bad, bad habit. Both sewing and knitting if it has a yoke, I put it down. I am sure one day I will be ready to take some risks but for now I really enjoy simply running some elastic through a channel.
Oh yeah, the fabric Repro Depot of course, I love their stock, if I was only personally wealthy.

Giving Thanks

We had a splendid day at my sisters house. It was great company and wonderful food. I love the above photo. Everyone is so joyous and my nephew looks like a little adult, but really it was just one of those toddler moments when he laughs simply because everyone else is, it breaks my heart.

Weekend Workshop

One of the big pieces of my grad program is planning, designing and teaching an undergraduate weekend workshop. This weekend I, along with my wonderful co teacher and some amazing students, talked about about heterosexism (and homophobia) and how it effects our lives and others. The photo above was a closing exercise where we created a web of appreciations. This activity is a great visual representation that we are all connected and with this connection we each can positively impact the lives of others. (It also provided me the opportunity to bring in some wool and talk about knitting). I like it also because it reminds me of primary school art class when we made string art on peg boards and also this that I saw a while back on Sarah's blog.
so all in all a terrific (but tiring) weekend.

Pay It Forward

I am join in the pay it forward exchange.
here's how it works: I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on this post requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, most likely in January, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog. i first saw this on Danielle's blog. Who has seen it throgh a chain of others. I like the idea, and philosophy of it. So here goes.....
